Clarion Rotary Club Members are preparing for their annual “Rotary Radio Auction” on Saturday, March 15.  The Auction is carried live on C93 FM and WWCH 1300 AM Radio Stations in Clarion.  The Rotarians are now collecting donations from local business and individuals and these will be auctioned of live on the radio.

A complete bidding guide of all the auction items will be listed in a special section to the Clarion News on March 20th and 21st.  Some featured auction items include: an I-Pad, Penguins, Steelers Tickets and many useful items from local businesses.  If you are a business owner someone from the Rotary Club should be contacting you soon.  If you an individual, and want to donate a new item or service, make a cash donation, please contact Bill Hearst at 221-9708.

Rotary is a service organization dedicated to providing volunteer service to our community. A wide variety of service projects ranging from youth leadership and scholarships, to community improvement are undertaken each year. Some of the past local projects and recipients of Rotary support include:

 

  • $1,000 annual Scholarship (Amy Davis Scholarship) available to residents of Clarion County based on Academics and volunteerism details can be found at clarionrotary.com

 

  • $1,000 annual Clarion University Scholarship available to residents of Clarion County based on academics and volunteerism details can be found at clarionrotary.com

 

  • $500 annual Clarion Career Center Scholarship (Tom Burkhardt Scholarship) for     outstanding student

 

  • $750 High School Youth Scholarships for 10 students to World Affairs Conference in Pittsburgh Convention Center

 

  • $3,500 for 12 students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) during summer:

Local high school students attend a week long leadership camp at Westminster College to             gain important leadership skills (also students who attend RYLA, apply to Westminster            and are accepted receive a $15,000 per year scholarship for 4 years)

 

  • $1,000 for 10 students to attend Rotary Outstanding Vocational Award (ROVA):

Local high school vocational students attend a leadership camp with other vocational        students from around northwestern PA

 

  • Polio Plus fundraiser to eradicate polio from the last 4 countries where it is still prevalent (Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nigeria). Project includes education and fundraising from area students. Amount in 2008 and 2009 totals $3,900.

 

  • Shadow Day for area High School students: students spend a day with local business leaders in their respective businesses to help the students understand career choices available to them

 

  • Rotary International Exchange Student Program (Inbound and Outbound)

 

  • Cook Forest Sawmill Theater: annual hands on renovations to prepare the Theater for the upcoming summer program

 

  • Clarion Hospital: financial support for Cancer Center, Pediatric Playroom

 

  • Clarion Library: Card Catalogs, Computer System, Endowment

 

  • Clarion Fire and Hose Company: financial support for purchase of ladder truck

 

  • Clarion Forest Visiting Nurses: financial support of new headquarters ($5,000 for 5 years starting in 2009)

 

  • Keystone Smiles scholarship support

 

  • Clarion County YMCA: financial support of program

 

  • Special Olympics: financial support of program

 

  • Clarion County Libraries: financial support

 

  • Clarion Main Street Christmas lights ($100 in 2008-2009)

 

  • Pennies from Heaven: financial support ($250 in 2008-2009)
  • Clarion County Little League team sponsorship

 

  • United Way of Clarion County: financial support (1,000 in 2008-2009)

 

  • Adopt a Highway Program

 

  • Children and Youth Services Financial support ($250 in 2008-2009)

 

  • Red Cross Annual Blood Drive

 

  • Food for Friends at Methodist Church of Clarion: provide and serve meals each year

 

  • Multi Phasic Blood Screening at Clarion Elementary School: 2 times per year

 

  • Salvation Army: annual collection in December
